For Bonnie-Jill, service has never been something separate from the rest of her life. Coming from a military family, her connection to those who serve is deeply personal—a commitment that has taken her on 19 USO tours, including visits to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. That same sense of responsibility extends to another cause close to her heart: protecting animals in need. Whether supporting service members far from home, advocating for veterans or giving rescued animals a second chance, Bonnie-Jill believes caring about something means more than lending your name to it. It means showing up.

Bonnie-Jill founded Hounds and Heroes and Horses to bring the two causes closest to her heart together: supporting America’s veterans and protecting animals in need. The organization connects rescue dogs with veterans as service and therapy companions while also creating opportunities for veterans to experience the healing connection of horses through equine programs and retreats. At its heart is a simple idea: give rescued animals a second chance while honoring and supporting the people who have given so much in service to others.

For Bonnie-Jill, animal rescue has never been about simply loving animals—it’s about taking responsibility for the ones who need someone in their corner. From opening her own home and ranch to rescued animals to advocating for animal welfare on Capitol Hill, she has used both her voice and her platform to push for better lives for animals in need. That commitment ultimately became part of the foundation of Hounds and Heroes and Horses, where rescue takes on an even greater purpose: giving animals a second chance while allowing them to become part of someone else’s healing story.
